April 9 - Mississauga South Chess Tournament
St. David of Wales Catholic Elementary School will be hosting the Mississauga South Chess Tournament on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Each school can register three teams (1 per division). There will be a max of 17 teams for each division, with a waitlist, due to capacity limitations. May 8 – Mississauga West Family of Schools hosts the 14th Annual Shining Stars Event
On Thursday May 8, 2025, the Mississauga West Family of Schools will host the 14th Annual Shining Stars Event. This beloved event takes place every year for our Mississauga West Diverse Learners.
The event will take place at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Secondary School (2800 Erin Centre Blvd. Mississauga). Students will have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympic Events, all supported by staff, elementary student volunteers, and St. Aloysius Gonzaga leadership students. The Opening Ceremony and Liturgy will start at 10:15 am. Students will then begin participating in the Special Olympic Events. They will all rejoin for lunch at 11:45 am. The event will conclude with a parade and singing at 12:15 pm.

May 9 - Second Annual Catholic Education Week Quiz Bowl
Each participating school will send a team of five students from grade 6 and up who will work together to compete against other schools in a trivia competition. Questions will be selected randomly from all subject areas of the curriculum, as well as general knowledge and current events. $30 to participate. Unfortunately, we can only accommodate 12 teams. On an annual basis, the 91̽�� School Board selects alumni from its schools and celebrates them through its Distinguished Alumni campaign. This campaign recognizes 91̽�� graduates who are making valuable and unique contributions in their respective careers, pathways and communities.

Our Distinguished Alumni are positive role models and represent the image of the Catholic learner as described by the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

91̽�� is currently accepting nominations for its 2025 Distinguished Alumni.

To be eligible for this recognition, the nominee must meet the following criteria:

The nominee is a graduate of the 91̽�� School Board;
The nominee has distinguished themselves through service, accomplishments or career;
The nominee reflects the characteristics of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations:

The 91̽�� School Board (91̽��) will hold a series of information sessions/open houses for prospective students and families interested in enrolling in a 91̽�� secondary school for the 2025-26 school year.

The information sessions will provide an overview of the programs and services offered at Dufferin-Peel Catholic secondary schools and will provide students and families with an opportunity to take a tour of the school and hear from current students about the transition into secondary school.

Currently, 91̽�� operates 26 Catholic secondary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Bolton and Caledon. These schools continue to be recognized among the top performing schools in the province each year.

With over 50 Specialist High Skills Major programs, three regional Arts programs, one regional Sports program, three International Baccalaureate programmes, two regional Advanced Placement programs, Extended French and French Immersion programs, and the only publicly funded All-Girls secondary school in the region, 91̽�� schools offer students a variety of learning options to suit their individual education goals.

91̽�� Student Census

What is a Student Census?
The Student Census collects detailed information about students' demographics and experiences. In the 2021-2022 school year, the 91̽�� School Board (91̽��) conducted a student census for Grades 4-12 students. Parents or guardians completed the census for younger students (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and those with special needs who required assistance.

Why Conduct a Student Census?
Research has shown that systemic racism and discrimination exist in Ontario. To address these issues, the Ontario Anti-Racism Act, 2017, requires school boards to collect identity-based data on the following items:

Language(s) first spoken	Sexual orientation
Indigenous language(s) first spoken	(Dis)ability
Indigenous identity	Birth in Canada
Ethnicity	Status in Canada
Race	Time in Canada
Religious affiliation	Socio-economic status

Collecting data about these items helps identify and eliminate disparities and disproportionalities in student experiences and outcomes, and supports planning and resource allocation to meet diverse student needs.

Consent, Implementation, and Confidentiality

Consent: The census was voluntary. Parents and guardians received detailed information and had the option to opt out.
Implementation: Students received personalized links to the online census via their school email accounts. The census collected names, student numbers, and school locations to link responses to individual students’ achievement, program access, and discipline information.
Confidentiality: All data collected is kept confidential and used solely to improve student outcomes without revealing personal identities. Detailed privacy measures are in place to protect student information.

Response Rates

Grades 4 - 12: Approximately 74% of students participated, with variations by grade level.
Kindergarten - Grade 3: About 17% participation, with parents/guardians completing the census.

Types of Questions
The census included mandatory questions about:

Demographics: Gender identity, language(s) spoken, Indigenous identity, ethnicity, race, religion, and differing abilities.
Experiences and Attitudes: Peer inclusion, school participation, emotional state, representation of equity-seeking groups, and experiences of exclusion or bullying.

Impact and Benefits
By collecting and analyzing this data, 91̽�� aims to:

Identify Issues: Spot and address systemic racism and discrimination within the school system.
Improve Outcomes: Develop targeted strategies to enhance educational outcomes for all students.
Ensure Equity: Uphold Catholic social teachings by promoting human dignity, solidarity, community living, and rights and responsibilities.
Support Students: Ensure that all students feel valued, supported, and treated with kindness and fairness, reflecting the teachings of Christ.

Summary of Student Attitudes: Attitudinal findings observed for students in Grades 4 through 12.

Summary of Parent/Guardian-Reported Student Social Identities: Social identities reported by parents and guardians for their students in Kindergarten - Grade 3 and older students who required parent/guardian support to complete the census.

Descriptive Tables – Parent/Guardian Reported Racial Outcomes: Information in this report includes numeric outcomes for each racial group based on census responses from parents/guardians of students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 and older students who required their parents/guardians to complete the census on their behalf.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now open

Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year at 91̽�� School Board (91̽��) schools is now open. The 91̽�� offers the Kindergarten program in 125 Catholic elementary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Bolton and Orangeville.

Parents/guardians can register online at dpcdsb.org.

Registration is open to Catholic children and children of Catholic parents. Kindergarten students must be at least four (4) years of age by December 31, 2025.

The following documents are required to complete the registration process:

Proof of age of the child
Original Roman Catholic baptismal certificate (for child and/or parent/guardian) or original baptismal certificate from a church in full communion with the Holy See of Rome or an Eastern Catholic Church.
Immunization Reference #'s from the local Public Health Unit
Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
Proof of home address
Proof of English Separate School Support

91̽�� School Board re-elects Luz del Rosario as Chair, Thomas Thomas as Vice-Chair

At the annual Organizational Meeting of the 91̽�� School Board on Tuesday, November 19, trustees re-elected Mississauga Wards 6 & 11 trustee, Luz del Rosario to a third consecutive term as chair of the 11-member Board of Trustees. Mississauga Ward 5 trustee, Thomas Thomas, was re-elected vice-chair, also for a third consecutive term.

"Re-elected for a third consecutive term as Chair, I am deeply honored to continue serving this Board alongside my colleagues," said Luz del Rosario. "Together, we remain committed to nurturing the values of faith and excellence in Catholic education, ensuring that every student is empowered to reach their full potential and contribute positively to our community."

The meeting opened with the annual address to the board by the Director of Education, Marianne Mazzorato, who recognized and thanked system partners, including parents and guardians, trustees, unions and associations, parish priests and staff at all levels for their commitment and dedication to Catholic education.

91̽�� announces its 2024 Distinguished Alumni

The 91̽�� School Board (91̽��) has released its 11th annual Distinguished Alumni poster series featuring profiles of alumni who are making valuable and unique contributions in their respective careers, pathways, and communities. 91̽�� Distinguished Alumni also represent the image of the Catholic learner as described by the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

The Distinguished Alumni poster will be distributed to all Catholic schools and parishes in Dufferin-Peel.

The 91̽�� School Board (91̽��) will once again develop a budget while operating under a Multi-Year Financial Recovery Plan (MYFRP) with the Ministry of Education. 91̽�� continues to work with the Ministry of Education in addressing the significant expenditure concern with a Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit plan that has created an accumulated deficit position. 91̽�� will operate under the MYFRP until the issue has been resolved.

The Ministry of Education provides funding to school boards through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding formula. GSN information will be available on the Ministry of Education website through the link provided below as well as through the budget reports presented to the Board of Trustees. Despite limited budgetary resources, 91̽�� is committed to ensuring our stakeholders have access to information regarding the budget development process and opportunities to provide input.

Public Budget Information and Consultation

During the 2024-2025 budget development process, 91̽�� offered a Public Budget Information Session webcast on April 24, 2024. This session provided an opportunity for our community stakeholders to receive financial information and updates on the 91̽�� deficit position. Sharing information, and receiving input from, our community members helps to inform the budget process. The accumulated deficit position of 91̽��, and limited funding resources available, does limit the actual expenditure decisions that can be made.
